Global Game Jam 2016 - Awaken

I participated in the Global Game Jam 2016 with a group of students from Virginia Commonwealth University's Communication Arts program. We had 48 hours, from Friday night to Sunday night, to make a game about "ritual."

We created a game called Awaken which you can play here. It's about the "daily ritual" of waking up and getting ready for the day. We were looking to find something dreamlike and fantastical in the routine. The game mechanics are in the vein of Warioware - short mini-games designed to last ~15 seconds or so each.

Note: If you're having trouble with the controls, everything involves just moving the mouse and clicking. They're designed to be puzzle-like (so purposefully mysterious) but telling the player that it doesn't involve the keyboard is helpful. The game was intended for a smartphone.

We didn't have any dedicated programmers on the team everyone was a visual artist so I dusted off my GameMaker skills and did my best. With a team of so many artists, my main goal was to just use every asset that they cranked out for me.

A picture of the team!
